This list has been compiled for alumni interested in changing practice areas. It includes general information on how to learn about the substance of various practice areas, as well as suggestions for how to go about making a transition. Reciprocity Using Other Law School Career Services Offices If you are looking for a job outside the metropolitan New York City area, we can make a request on your behalf to obtain access to the career services office of another law school.

Requests are limited to one school per geographic region. It is important to understand that, as each law school has its own reciprocity policy, there may be varying restrictions on the services and resources provided, and access to an office may be limited during certain times of the year.

In addition, as our policy anticipates in-person use of our office by students and graduates of other law schools, we are only able to request the same service in return. Individual Career Counseling Phone or in-person appointments are available during most times of the year to discuss a variety of job and career transition issues. Alumni undertaking a search primarily in the public interest or government sector should contact the Public Interest Law Center for assistance.

In order to make the most effective use of counseling time, alumni are strongly encouraged to utilize the relevant sections of the comprehensive OCS publications and resources before scheduling a counseling session. During certain times of the year, the availability of one-on-one counseling may be limited due to major OCS, Law School or University events, as well as professional staff schedules.

We had a casual conversation about some experiences on my resume. Following this I had a one one in person interviewing asking about my past research experiences and my educational background. They seemed to be checking if I was aware of basic lab techniques and protocols. The process took 5 days. I was interviewed for a research assistant position at Wagner school of Public Policy. The interview was short.

They needed somebody with very specific data management skills. The building is very nice and my interviewer was very courteous but straighforward. I has some of the skills they needed but was not a perfect fit for the position. I applied through college or university. It took a while for them to respond to my application but when I heard from them, scheduling the interview was fast and easy. I interviewed with the team of two- the director and his associate-that I was going to work with.

They were super professional but the interview was conversational and that took the edge off. The chat was delightful and less than a couple of weeks later I head back from them with an offer. Note this was obviously for a technical position. If you talk to someone from HR, you are likely getting pretty close to a final offer when they call you.

If you talk to the hiring manager, you likely have a lot more room to negotiate. The process took about 3 months from first interview to job offer. I met with same person twice and then finally had my interview with HR. I believe people usually interview with HR as part of screening process, but my interview process was done in reverse and meeting with HR person felt like just a technicality.
